What a great place to have an advert I thought, but how?
Everyone keeps menus in their kitchen drawer and they get looked at time and time again, well they do in my house anyway!
I wrote a letter to 25 takeaways in the local area, I offered that we would pay for their menus to be produced in return for a decent sized advert on it.
4 weeks on and I have got 2 takeaways on board, the menus are being handed out and I even got a free takeaway (it was worth doing for that alone).
From a local advertising point of view this is one of my best ideas so far, the annual cost is about £300 per takeaway, but just think how many times that advert will get seen!

Hi there,
I am also marketing manager and I came across your link on business forum. I must say, I think this is a gem of an idea. What kind of response you had to it? Did you get any inquiries from menus?
Best of luck

I would suggest from a marketing and ROI point of view, you put a reference on each takeaway advert, and ask people to quote it when they contact you.. that way you can see which takeaways are earning a return on your investment… you can then fine tune your advertising depending on your first year results.

That is a really good idea, especially if you have a consumer-ish product.
Could be a good chance for old school affiliate marketing where you both agree to advertise each others services in your sales process?
On a lighter note, I think a legal company advertising on a chinese leaflet would mean the standard of the cookery would be out of this world to prevent being sued!

Thanks for the positive comments, it is still fairly eary days with this particular project.
Joe, good point, I should have included a unique number to track what we get from it, will do that on the next batch we have printed.
I have been on holiday for the last 8 days and upon my return have had two more takeaways who want to sign up!
They are all chineses, no indians yet, shame, I was hoping for a free curry!!!
So are any of you guys going to try this idea? I would love to hear how others get on with it.
